When? 21st June 2008 7.30 til 11.30pm

Where? Snitterfield Village Hall

How much? £12 a ticket (incl. snacks and drinks!)

Parking? VERY limited, we have WWII military vehicles coming and the bands vehicle also. If you live in the village, please think of your petrol rations and walk/ cycle or car share if you can. Obviously diabled parking will take priority on the spaces left. I will ask the lovely people at the Snitterfield Arms or the like, incase we could use some of their car park but I cannot promise anything! If people wish to have a lift to the party in a military vehicle from somewhere in the village (will seat up to 3 civilians) this can be booked for £9, but unfortunately we cannot give lifts back!

What's on? The Rum Ba Ba Band will be playing 40's hits and there will be 1940's music throughout the night. WWII reinactors, 'ration snacks' handed out incase of an air raid and a basic Lindy Hop Lesson thrown in! Don't forget to... read more

I am hoping to run a Bygone Snitterfield event along the lines of those run in Bearley over the last 3 years. To make it a success I would like to borrow (very briefly) any pictures, film etc you may have of the village, however old or new, to turn into an audio visual presentation and DVD.

Have you got any? - would you like to help?

Snitterfield in 1954

I lived at Hatton Bank Farm in 1954, when my father Harry Rose was foreman for the owner Clyde Higgs who owned several farms in the area, including Black Hill and Hatton Rock, and supplied milk to most of Stratford and surrounding area. He was extremely wealthy and visited his farms in a chauffeur driven Rolls Royce. I went to school in Snitterfield, and am writing a book about my father. I visited Hatton Bank Farm a few years ago and was dismayed o find that the beautiful Queen Anne farmhouse with six bedrooms, cellars, a music room and an acre of gardens had been demolished and some kind of hideous modern barn put in it's place. I have a fund of hilarious (and sad) stories about the farm, our time in Warwickshire forms just one chapter of the book. I wondered if you have a historical society in the village, and if what I have written could be of interest to them. Does any one, aged 65 or over, remember Hatton Bank Farm, the Rose family, Carol Rose, Clyde Higgs, or might my name ap... read more

We've lost our long-haired tortoise-shell cat called Tia. She was last seen on Saturday 12th July at our house in Pigeon Green but she often walks to our old house in Park Lane. If you've seen her walking about or found a body or adopted her yourself, please let me know because I can't stop worrying about her.

Thanks,
Beccy (tel 730688)

Have just moved into this village, is anyone else annoyed with the speeding cards coming up and down the village, literally live off Pigeon Green and my cat was knocked over on Sunday, all be it the driver wasn't speeding, however usually at about 11.10 - 11.30 there is a car that must be doing at least 60mph at night going through. (sitting here writing this and the same car has just gone past 23:23 grrrr)

Tempted to get a scarecrow that jumps out and says slow down ok with the joking put aside any suggestions??

Isn't it only a matter of time that someone gets hurt if it hasn't already happened?

Church Farm?

Does anyone have any idea whether there was a Church Farm in the Snitterfield area in the 19th century? Three generations of my family lived at that address from atleast 1841 until 1861. On the same page of the 1861 Census the listings are:- Green Hill, Round House, Church Farm and then Lower Clopton. Any help in locating the position of the farm - or knowing for sure it wasn't in Snitterfield - would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

Kittenv on Mew will be coming to Snitterfield this Saturday (and possibly Sunday) to sell tickets and generally spread the word about the Blitz Ball. Dolled up to the nines in 1940's gear with Master Durley, Kitten will be heading round the village with tickets, fliers and any information you need about the ball.

If you require any further information about the Blitz Ball or to buy tickets please call 0729 424 884 or email us at kitten@kitte-von-mew.com. Tickets will only be on sale for the next 11 days or until we run out (which could be pretty soon!). Kitten will be in the village from around 2pm and again on Sunday at around midday.

See a littel bit about the Blitz Ball in WARWICKSHIRE LIFE MAGAZINE's June edition!

I'm talking about the Village Hall here!

Many moons ago I ran the Snitterfield Playgroup, which was held at that time in the little room at the back of the hall. I would get down there for around 8am to set up, and many a time I would hear the main door open and someone come in and walk into the hall and down to the side door... I thought it was either Wendy or one of the mothers coming early..... but the footsteps would just stop at the door!

This happened many a time, but I never felt worried or scared, there was always a happy atmosphere in the Hall then. On odd occasions I would open the door to catch a glimpse of who it was........... but again the Hall was empty and the footsteps would stop......

Ummmm I wonder who could it have been??

Has anyone got any Village Hall stories.....

Hello All,
Just wanted to say that I spent a couple of days in the area as I was booked to be a DJ at a wedding in the Village.

I come from Cornwall and as I am sure many of you know Cornwall is a beautiful place and I am very lucky to be a Cornishman, but in saying that My breath was taken away when I first drove through Snitterfield.

From the green area's to the houses I thought the whole place was a beautiful sight. I hope to come again as I feel I have made some good friends, but at very least I can say I truly have been to one of the worlds smallest wonderful gems.

Thank You
Michael Proper Job Williams

What an absolute mess the grass cutting contractors have made, surely they are not going to leave it in that state, you could build a hay stack with the cuttings.
Poor show.

Rent Increases Garages

Does anyone share my anger that South Warwickshire Housing Association are increasing the rent on the garages at Duttons Close and Hales Close without justification? I began renting in 2003 at a rate of GBP6.00/week, I received a letter today informing me that the new rate was GBP7.53/week. This is an increase of 25% over that time. This is way above yaer on year inflation and I cannot claim to have seen any improvement in service, however blue paint is an imorovement over the previous green colour scheme but I would not have sanctioned the change had I known how much extra it would cost me.
Come on comrades, lets join together to stop this unjustified extration of cash from our pockets. Let me know the feeling out there and the next steps in the revolution to bring a fair rental charge can begin.

My father did not know his mother as she died when he was only three months old. It is only recently that I realised how much he would like to know something about her and her family. The family did not originate from Snitterfield, but I believe that Frederick Higginson (my great uncle) farmed in the village. He lived in a cottage close to Wayfield House in the 1920s. He married Dora Bird in 1910, but that is all I know about him. Does anyone know exactly where he lived, anything about the family or anything vaguely connected with his home, work etc.? Any information greatly appreciated.

My grandparents, Thomas & Daisy (nee Parris) Saunders lived in Snitterfield in the 1910/30 period and my father Douglas Thomas was born to them in 1918. I believe that they were tenant farmers, but around 1928 my father moved to Leicester and there is no further trace of Thomas & Daisy.
Does anyone in Snitterfield have any knowledge of them and what happened to them?
