Gypsy site

I struggle to understand why residents of the village are so vehemantly opposed to the establishment of a lawful site for the local gypsies/travellers. There are already some sites locally and as far as I am aware there are no major issues arising from these. If we continually object to a lawful site being established then there is the danger that illegal ones will spring up, as in other parts of the county, and these cause even more problems. I look forward to the result of the planning application but please do not say that all village residents are opposed as I am not. 862

Well said Dave, any time anything new is proposed it is always stated that the villagers oppose it,do they? or just the usual vocal minority! The Armouries, motorised gliders, affordable housing all complaints say majority of villagers are against. No they are not,I think the gliders look fantastic and bring much needed revenue to the top pub and they dont make that much noise, and affordable housing should be welcome to bringing new life to the village. what a fantastic attraction the Armouries are with no impact on the village. Arden fisheries another success. The travellers already use the village hall and cause no problems. 863

Dave, You many not be aware of issues arising to the local sites - that doesn't mean there aren't any. The Blackhill site was used to store a large number of stolen items - for which the owners spent time in prison. The Pathlow sites need to have regular visits from the police. I saw a gypsy truck being driven through the village today with a load of scrap iron on the back and a child in the rear seats who I'd guess was about 8 or 9, he was smoking. He should have been in school. The English are a bloody apathetic race of people - in general they take far too little interest in planning issues, people have reeasons for being against gypsy sites I know of people who have had bad experiences of the Pathlow gypsies. Anon - I like gliders too - they do look fantastic and they don't make that much noise - guess why. They are NOT MOTORISED. AsI can assure you that they are a lot less enJoyble to watch when they've got a big motor at the front making a lot of noise. Motorised gliders as I understand it come in two forms - one a real glider with a small auxiliary engine which pops out of a pod behind the cockpit. They don't need the engine for landing, and they can be winch launched (quiet) and then pop the engine out when they're at one thousand feet or however high they are winched to. This means the engine is not screaming away trying to claw the aircraft into the sky. The second type is essentially a normal plane with big wings - I get the impression that they don't do much gliding - they Just motor around making lots of noise which is what people don't like. Snitterfield is quite lucky in that the gliding club stops the incessant circling of small aircraft which is a feature of life in Stratford where literally hundreds of planes can be overflying each day. 864

Why do people judge others? Just because one gypsy group was a nightmare doesnt mean to say ALL gypsies are a nightmare? Why are people such snobs? We are all human beings, just from different backgrounds. I have seen a woman walking round Snitterfield who looks like a gypsy, covered in tatoos, drinking outside the top pub, is she a gypsy? Is SHE judged? Not ALL people can afford to live in posh houses in Snitterfield. If you actually got to know these people I think you would find they are human beings with the same needs as all of us. 870

Is everyone on signing as 'anon' because they are scared of the Gypsy reprisals? I suggest people put names on comments and stops being cowardly. 871

Hi, i knowq the van in question, it pays regular visits to my neighborhood, they have relatives here, we have had problems with the whole family, who also come from Pathlow camp, smoking weed, carrying unrestrained children in the truck, cars and on the back of the truck, they use our carpark for storing (nicked) scrap metal, they like to stay up late smoking weed, it stinks, the police dint seem to notice or care, why not? are they scared of them?....they are judged badly due to their behaviour, and 'couldnt care less' attitude towards the law, and decent people who have to live near them, thats why they are put down, if they changed their ways and became part of the community, and sticking to laws, then they would be welcomed more places. P>s have the police checked out the Pathlow site for drugs???and untaxed/uninsured vehicles??? 916
