On this day in 1983 Chocie became chocie, working for the then company known as Lesme Ltd. Starting in London for two months, getting glandular fever with all the dashing about and new job, chocie eventually moved up to Banbury to start up the office there. Memories! Now retired of course they are just memories - some happy some not so. Life goes on and retirement is lovely, isn't it dear fellow retirees? |

Hi anyone thought about giving this underused site the chance to promote the various events in the club? Communication here would encourage more to read them and be involved, maybe? Just a thought. |

Now hear this, all you fellow sportsmen of the racquet sort: Keep on playing. Just because Old (he is the oldest male player in the club)Chocie is still under medical advice and nursing a broken shoulder (be so careful whilst playing) there is absolutely no need to curtail your enthusiasm for the game. In fact, Chocie requests you play with even more exacting skills, perpetrating his deft slices, until he returns of course. He does not want to be facing his own petard! Chocie is still to return but that he will, even if he has to insist on a strong and more able chap to help him. Not going to embarrass anyone here on who they might be! KEEP AT IT! |

Just hope that I have lots more good news to report soon. Thursday is my big day for this week with the biopsy. Not looking forward to that. Needles and me do not go hand in hand or arm for that matter! Oh how I wish I had not fallen on the tennis court...... Still My MOT will be giving me an all clear if I get that result soon. What a relief, but it does make one realise that good health is at a premium and we should not take it for granted. To all that may read this, thanks for your thoughts they must be helping. Bless you and take care everyone. |

Hi, to anyone out there, as I think no one reads this site. Whatever, I will post my note and ask for your prayers or crossed fingers or anything else you prefer to do when you want to wish someone well. It is a busy week with more tests Wednesday and the biopsy Thursday. Wish me well as I want to play tennis again with you guys and lasses! Today 24th I have the bone scan. In researching this it sounds a bit ugh as there is some radioactive stuff put into the system and then the scan to detect any faulty bones in the body that no other can reach is done some 3 hours later. Sounds like the beer advert. Not the 3 hours but the bit reaching other parts. ou know what I meant, didn't you? Wasn't yesterday lovely and hot? We found a few cool places to soak up the warmth without getting sunburnt and had a picnic. Have not done that for years so old memories revived. Afterwards, The Old Theakstons and Brew XI goes down well in these conditions, eh? |

Well. the medical update is that the scapula (shoulder blade) is fractured and depending on a ct scan tomorrow there may be an operaton due to rectify the compound fracture. I must have been eating too many pies as my weight in the fall seems to have been a contributary factor (my thoughts not the surgeon's). I certainly heard the crunching sound but i thought that might be the muscles and tendons already pulled/torn or whatever recently now getting a further bashing. If only I had not had to switch courts and use other balls and even being up against top spinner Steve Price and playing with Alf.....ah what happened happened and I have to put it down to misfortune. Lightning keeps stiking in the same place, which it is not supposed to do, is it? Well, I am sure that the tennis, bowls and table tennis will flourish now chocie is not around to play. He will certainly be watching play in all the disciplines with an even more critical eye. Until I come out from the anaesthetic... read more |

There it was is abundance...chocie v Nello in the finale of the night. With two older men (not old men) the pair of Steve and Chocie won out against Nello and Paul W. What a well contested match it was. Chocie misses the Friday nights, may be he will deserve a call up soon after the foreign travels, who knows, but he is willing and able!!!! Cheers guys, I enjoyed the night. Thanks Lisa for putting up with me again....remember our KCFT all of a year ago/ Ah, Memories!!!! |

Oh to be in England in the winter of discontent when all is heard is chatter and not much clatter of the balls. More noise from crisps to satisfy the hungry player, albeit of salt and vinegar! Just wish the perpetrators of the former were stuffing with the latter! |

In the quiet rural village of Snitterfield there is a noise to be heard in the darker hours - one cockerill, crowing, not at his best, but nevertheless making a noise most extraordinaire (like a french cockerill or a spurs one!). A reward is available for the extermination of this noisey bird by whatever means can be deployed to silence the creature. Two pints has been quoted but a closer deal can be arranged with the shopkeeper....... For reasons of anonymity the griper cannot announce himself; but does so look forward to a quiet night's sleep.....soon. |

Led by Paul and Laurie who won their two matches, we enjoyed a 3-1 away win at FISSC B which is a very good result against another of the sides relegated to our division. Nello and Clive held it together (JUST!) on the sandy surface to win their second match 7-6, 7-5,. In particular, thanks to Paul and Laurie who were well into overtime when they won the final rubber 7-5 in the 3rd set at 1330. Next match Wildmoor at home on 11ht Oct - good luck to the team who will be captained by Nello playing with Tim Cox, and the two Steves will make up our squad that day. Any queries re dates and fixtures, phone me at home evenings or use e mail. |

If there is a big dip in the middle of the bench on court 2 it's because I spent a few minutes under 3 hours stood on it on Saturday evening watching Laurie beat Will in three gripping sets, 6-7 6-2 6-4 to win this years men's singles trophy. An enthralling battle of wits and ages and its a shame there had to be a loser. |

Tennis Bookings

It seems a precedent is set to spoil the chances of the non-league players to play on the Snitterfield Tennis Courts on a Tuesday evening. In spite of an historical usage of the courts pre winter league commencement for the tennis squads or league player aspirants to sort themselves with a bit of practice in the run up to the Winter League, it now seems that they want to carry on throughout the weeks at the expense of other members to arrange a court booking on that evening. Surely this is not fair, is it? I am sure that the league players will give over their allocation eventually, so that the other players who are memebers can get court time? Or is this too much to ask? Bearing in mind that the other players have historically had the benefit of the said Tuesday evenings booked for their enjoyment and only let the league side aspirants have their pre-season practice recently. I think Fair Play would let the Tuesday evenings revert to the heretofore position. Any comments please ... read more |

A defeat, 0-4! Having said that Nello and I should and probably might have got a result in our rubbers. Having got warmed up we went down 3-6, 6-7 against the 2nd pair. Our first pair of Mike and Clive went down 0 and 1. In the next lot of games Nello and I were phased by the hard hitting younger pair going down 0 and 5. That second set could esily have gone to us as we were 5-2 up! Clive and Mike had lost 2 nd 3 to them. The evening went colder and colder and so did the match for us. Nevertheless, we entertained them and the result card is completed and awaits your collection, along with the keys and monies. |

That is it, fin. The end of an era. Well, it ended as a draw amazingly versus Ilmington, who did bring a relatively weaker squad, but only just. Only just in that the aging chocie was least able to cope with 3-setters and another match after that. Know the feeling reader? When you have gone the extra mile over the years....since the 60's in fact in league competition one wonders what is left in the tank. Regrettably one has to call it a day. Sorry to those that would probably wish I would continue but.... Although I did post an early warning to this effect as old age is catching up I can say that on balance our club has potential. It is time for new blood at the helm and elsewhere. I would offer Clive to run the 2nd's, as his enthusiasm is there in abundance. He also has a few years left in his tank. I hope he gets the job. Good Luck to whoever does take over. As for Ilmington, they battle well, as good as us really and they had a chance of promotion, yet we spoiled their ... read more |

It is here......our last B Team match for the winter season. Our visitors are Ilmington, with whom we reversd fixtures in order to accommodate the court being utilised in the first half of the season for a rearranged match postponed due to bad weather. Team is: Clive with Nello as first pair and Nick with Chocie as second. Having drawn with them away our fortunes might not be so bright this time around as they had a slightly weaker second pairing out then. It looks like my swansong so if we could notch a win that would be fine.....it is up to us to achieve it. Thanks for volunteering for this one as it made my life a lot easier. See everyone at the Courts for 10 a.m. on 15.3.09. |

Well, in spite of the vagaries of the weather, we ground out a home win. Clive and Nello pulled through after a dodgy three setter in the first pairings with the weather deteriorating fast and then slaughtering the second pair in straight love sets. Chocie and the Shopkeeper won a convincing straight sets win against the second pairing; but with the time interval/break in play, they entered the field of battle for the onslaught versus the visitor's first pair. Holding 3-3 in the first set it eventually went away from them although a fightback looked on the cards in the second set at 0-5, 1-5, 2-5, only for the steam, energy and will to win gone they succombed. Would like to say that Lee played magnificently in the first match and reassured the aging chocie that we could get a result after all. Well done Lee and thanks to Gaye for bribing you to play, sorry encouraging you to play. Thanks a million. In reward terms, Chocie will now swing a bat in Botham style 2009 for the Snipes.... read more |
