Has anyone come across a website with templates for a knockout tournament (8 and 16 entrants), just to save me drawing one up from scratch in PowerPoint or Excel? Just the sort of thing that the LTA should be helping us with, but can't find it there. Any other ideas welcome. |

Seeing that that ladies are declining or at least not responding to a challenge with the men (ex Winter League); what about we(club) challenge the bowlers to a tennis and bowls contest? |

Have noticed a distinct lack of interest by many members to the Sunday morning sessions. Mind you it does give the players that do go some extra opportunities to get worn out! Will there be a better turnout in the next few weeks? Maybe the recovery from football is responsible? |

You may be aware that Rob, our webmaster, left this country earlier this year for sunnier climes, having purchased a plane ticket to New Zealand via South Africa and Australia. I was to keep the website up to date in terms of remodelled pages, while with the use of electronic communications i.e. e-mail, Rob would send the data to the remote site and all wouid be fine. Where it all went wrong, only Rob could tell you, suffice to say, he broke both legs, badly, paragliding and spent some four weeks in a Pietermaritzberg hospital without access to the internet, much like Beckham without Posh. Anyway, he's back home and without much to do lying in bed waiting for his bones to mend. The site is shortly to be updated, and I would ask all to give their opinions of the quality of information provided on the site and make suggestions for improvement. |

How about the men's Winter doubles taking on the ladies? We both had a good season and know that the ladies are up for it. You are arn't you, ladies? From what I have seen, the ladies are well coached and fit! |

Following a few weeks and a weekend in the spanish and welsh sunshine, I've played a bit of social tennis of late with a number of regulars, not so regulars, and new members, and had a look at the participants on the coaching courses. With the granting of planning permission for floodlights, and the likely provision of same this autumn, I've come to the conclusion there are members within the club, who feel they don't fit in a the moment, because their game isn't sufficiently robust to partake in the club sessions. Now, best will in the world, I'll give anyone the opportunity to hit ball in order to improve their technique, but, unfortunately, there are only so many hours in the day. So, maybe the thing to do is produce the tennis wall, thereby, giving everyone the opportunity to improve. What do you think? |

You will note that there's a letter going the rounds in the village on the above subject suggesting that a total of 200 applicants are required before BT will update their exchange. So for fast and easy access to your own tennis website and many more besides, please take the trouble to express your interest in Broadband as soon as possible. |

We will be having our annual american doubles tournament on the 25th of August, Bank Holiday Monday, at 1pm. This will be a great opertunity to play with and against other members of the club. At the end of the afternoon we will have a quick knockout tournament to decide the winners. Get you sun cream on and get down to the courts. See you then Peter peter@snitterfield.com |
